Union has completed the trusted setup, paving the way for trustless cross-chain Decentralized Finance.
Gate News bot news, Union has set a new record for zero-knowledge infrastructure, with its Groth16 trusted setup ceremony now completed, receiving a total of 4,664 verified contributions, surpassing the record set by Manta Network in 2023, with an additional 4,590 contributions still pending. This lays the encryption foundation for using concise validity proofs to verify consensus and cross-chain messages.
The trusted setup ceremony is crucial for zero-knowledge proof systems. Union enables it to act as a "blockchain within a blockchain," providing verifiable messaging and asset transfers between Ethereum, Cosmos, Arbitrum, Babylon, and even Bitcoin's L2 layer, without relying on any centralized participants.
Union Chief Technology Officer Cor Pruijs stated: "Union's Groth16 trusted setup ceremony has the largest scale in history, which means it has the smallest honest assumption."
The "honest assumption" refers to the minimum number of participants that must act honestly (i.e., not disclose or reuse their private random numbers) to ensure the security of the final encryption parameters.
